Subdividing your claim has many benefits, including letting other players build in specific places, while protecting the rest of your claim. **This is very useful for towns with many trusted residents.**

You are unable to unclaim your main claim while it has subdivisions with /abandonclaim. If you want to unclaim the main claim, the command changes to /abandontoplevelclaim which unclaims the main claim and all subdivisions.
